For a while now I have been looking for a great waffle recipe that is versatile and can with stand anything I want to add to it.
Luckily I have finally found it!
Carrie at Frugal Foodie Mama has a great recipe that you can put together ahead of time and then when you are ready to make your waffles all you have to do is add in some wet ingredients and BAM! You are done.
I made cake mix waffles before for my daughter’s birthday so when I saw a red velvet cake mix I thought it might be a good fit for this recipe.
I tweaked it the second time around that I made them to so it could produce 4 really big Belgium waffles! Happy Valentine’s Day and ENJOY!
HOW TO MAKE RED VELVET CAKE MIX WAFFLES
Ingredients:
- Red Velvet Cake Mix (you can really use any flavor you desire): this gives the waffles that rich, red color.
- All-purpose flour: this helps stabilize the waffles for the waffle iron.
- Milk: helps thin the batter out or it would be too thick.
- Oil and Eggs. Standard add ins for a boxed cake mix.
Directions:
- Grease and preheat according to manufacturer instructions.
- Whisk together milk, oil, and eggs. Stir in flour and cake mix.
- Mix for 2 minutes. Batter may have a few lumps.
- Ladle approximately ยฝ to 1 cup of mixture into waffle iron. (Follow the recommended amount of the manufacturer instructions.)
- Cook according to waffle iron directions. Typically 3-5 minutes.
- Keep warm till ready to enjoy.
- In a microwavable safe bowl add heavy cream and chocolate chips stir till smooth. (If too thick you can add a little more warm heavy cream.)
