When I think of pie, apple always comes to mind. It something Mom always had around the house for holidays or just for any time we wanted a dessert. Normally would keep frozen ones in the freezer but during the holidays she made hers homemade.
Before this year, I always made a homemade crust as well but this year, I decided to simplify it by using a pre-made crust!
HOW TO MAKE SIMPLE APPLE PIE!
INGREDIENTS:
- apples
- cinnamon
- butter
- brown sugar
- cornstarch
- pre-made pie crust
- milk
- sugar
DIRECTIONS:
- In a large bowl add apples and cinnamon. Stir. Set aside.
- On medium heat in a large pot add butter. Melt, then add brown sugar, simmer for 2 minutes. Stir in apples.
- Allow to cook for 10 minutes. Stir in cornstarch. Take off heat and set aside.
- Spray 9 inch pie pan with non stick cooking spray. Lay one pie crust in bottom of pan.
- Pour in apples.
- Top with second crust. Pinch edges to seal the pie.
- Brush top with milk. Sprinkle sugar. Bake!
Can you use a homemade crust? Yes you can! With any pie crust the edges may cook faster then the center, so be prepared to line your edges with foil so they do not burn.
Brushing the milk on the top helps give it a nice golden color to the pie.
Why cook the apples first? This actually cuts down on your total cook time. Nomrally apple pies can take up to an hour to cook. By dicing the apples and cooking them for 10 minutes. Baking the pie only takes 20 minutes! Win-win!
