If you are a gnocchi fan, like me, you are going to love this hearty comforting gnocchi with butter and sage.
Gnocchi happens to be one of our go-to meals on a weekly basis when we need to get dinner on the table quickly.
You will find that most brands of gnocchi that you buy will only take a few minutes to cook, which is something you can’t beat!
What is Gnocchi?
Gnocchi is a type of Italian dumpling that is typically made with potatoes and flour, sometimes also with eggs.
When we make it at home it takes maybe an hour from start to finish, so buying it definitely saves us some time on busy weeknights.
What Kind of Sauce Goes with Gnocchi?
When I am in a hurry I always go with butter and any herb I have available.
More times than none, I go with sage. Butter and sage compliment the earthy, hearty flavor of the gnocchi, so it’s always a safe choice. Adding a little grated cheese is always a plus!
Top it with a homemade ragù sauce (sometimes referred to as bolognese in certain parts of Italy.
How To Make Sage Butter Gnocchi
The first thing you want to do is get your water boiling for the gnocchi. That is what will take the longest.
The sauce and the cooking of the gnocchi will happen quickly, so getting the water boiling is the first step.
When making any kind of dish I try to minimize the amount of pots and pans I use, but this time around I definitely need to use two.
One for the gnocchi and one for the sauce. For the sauce, you are just going to melt a lot of butter, trust me, it’s worth it.
Then add your garlic and fresh sage. I have used dried sage before, but the flavor is definitely not the same.
Once the gnocchi is done, add it to your butter sauce and top with cheese! Simple and easy! If you are looking for more easy dinner ideas check out this cheesy tomato pasta bake or this bucatini with tomatoes pasta!
