These baked beans are going down as one of my all time favorite side dishes to make! I absolutely LOVE them and they are one of the most requested side dish from my kids!
I used to refuse to buy baked beans due to the amount of sugar that was in them, but homemade is the way to go! Although they still have sugar in them, they are less sweet than store bought, which is perfect in my book!
Some of my favorite main dishes to serve with these baked beans are these grilled ranch chicken thighs or you could try sausage cheddar pinwheels!
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE BAKED BEANS:
Ingredients:
- 2 – 15oz cans navy beans (do not drain)
- ½ medium onion (diced) (about ¾ cups)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- ¼ Cup molasses
- ¼ Cup ketchup
- ¼ Cup soy sauce (low sodium)
- 1 Teaspoon salt
- ¼ Teaspoon pepper
- ¼ Teaspoon dry mustard
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In 8×8 baking dish add beans and onions. Stir.
- In a separate bowl add the brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, soy sauce, salt, pepper, and dry mustard. Whisk together.
- Pour over beans. Stir.
- Cook for 45 minutes, stirring half way through, until thick and bubbly.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
NOTES & STORAGE:
Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Can I add bacon if I want?
Yes, simply lay slices of bacon on the top of the bean mixture or cut into strips and mix into the bean mixture.
Can I use dried beans?
Yes, you can. Simply soak beans overnight and then follow the same recipe as above but add an additional hour of cooking time just to make sure the beans are done.
