This recipe only happened because my 11 year old is super crazy for anything that is butter pecan flavor! So one day we decided to make our own sauce, so she could eat it with ice cream whenever she liked!
I also made this easy cherry compote and this simple apple compote to go over ice cream! They are all equally good!
How do you make Butter Pecan Sauce?
You make it with 6 ingredients!
- butter
- brown sugar
- maple syrup
- pecans
- vanilla
- heavy cream
Next thing you will melt the butter in a pot. Then add the rest of the ingredients, one at a time. Total cooking time is about 10 minutes! So easy!
Does it harden?
Will the sauce harden when you put in over ice cream? Yes and now. I will if it is warm, but if it is cold it won’t.
Most likely your sauce will be warm because when you pull it out of the refrigerator you will need to warm it up to get that creamy consistancy.
How long does it last?
If you want to know how long will this last in the refrigerator I would say up to 2 weeks. We’ve been slowly eating it out of the jar for that long and it still taste so good!

HI Cindie, I’ve went through the post and clicked the print button, did it on several devices to see if there was a problem on my end. I did not find one. There is a large black print button right in the recipe card that will open a new screen for you to print the recipe.

My 9yr old son made this tonight, (he loves pecans) and he says this is the greatest pecan syrup he’s ever had! He wants to be a cook and this’ll be his first recipe that he’s done alone with me watching over him. It taste wonderful and I could die happy eating this!
Nancy P.
Great to hear Sarah! My 11 year loves to make it too!

I bet this would taste fantastic in coffee. Dunkin Doughnuts has butter pecan iced coffee in summer months. And it’s the only coffee of theirs I care for. Now I’ll be able to make my own. I’m excited. There use to be a creamer by International Delight but haven’t seen it in the stores for a while either. I’m looking forward to giving this a try.

Sounds tasty!
Patty
Nancy, I plan to try this soon. Is the maple syrup, real maple syrup or the pancake type?
Nancy Piran
Hi Patty! It’s real maple syrup. Hope you enjoy it!
Christy
Could this be canned for long shelf life till opened?
Nancy Piran
Hi Christy! I haven’t tried it myself, but I don’t think so. If you decide to experiment, let me know how it goes!
Sandra
According to Ball and other canning books, it’s not safe to can anything containing dairy products. I have seen a few YouTubers (rebel canners) that did can milk for long term storage but, I haven’t seen an update on how the milk held up during storage. It would be safer to store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge.
Nancy Piran
Thanks for the tip!
Brittani
Wonder if we could can it?
Nancy Piran
Hi Brittani! I’ve had others ask before as well, but I don’t can so I’m not familiar with it or if it would work. If you decide to experiment, I’d love to know how it goes!
